The final arrangements

We are in the final stages of packing, with lots still to arrange.

On our previous extended trip in 2022, I posted a detailed itinerary on the blog that turned out to be totally wrong, so I am going to keep you in suspense this time and post as the trip unfolds.  Be assured that you will enjoy the virtual journey with us.

The previous blog was posted daily, which turned out to be very time-consuming.  This blog will be more of a weekly update of activities, taking the stress off a little.

Our journey starts with an early flight on January 17, 2024, so we will get a hotel near the airport on the 16th.  Our first destination is Sydney, Australia, where we will spend a few days recovering from our 17-hour flight, which lands at 7am on the 19th [local time].

For some unknown reason, we start by zig-zagging around the US.  Our first flight is from Wichita north to Chicago, then south, Chicago to Houston [flying right past Wichita], and then the big flight from Houston to Sydney.

Our first adventure will be to visit my first cousin Jane and her husband Robert, who live just outside Sydney.  My cousin Peter emigrated to Australia with his family in the early 1970's.  We will rent a car on landing in Sydney and drive out of the city as quickly as possible.  We are not city folks.  We have a hotel booked, but our plans are fluid for the next few days.  I have long admired Australia and look forward to getting to know the real country.
